    Story

From the moment you start the game, you’re immediately engaged in the story. The game balances Grace’s and Leon’s story segments and timing perfectly. On one hand, you have to play as Grace. This is her first rodeo, and therefore, you’re in for a lot of jumpscares from her perspective. On the other hand, you have Leon. For him, it’s just another Tuesday, and you feel like a boss when you play as Leon.

Grace has to face her past trauma and overcome obstacles to find answers. When you play the story as Grace, you’re already immersed in the survival horror feel. The voice acting is brilliant, and the moment Grace wakes up in the Rhodes Hill Hospital, you’re in for a ride. Without spoiling too much, Grace’s story is more focused on solving puzzles, stealth, and just surviving in any way you can.

As for Leon, he’s fighting the T-virus infection and is racing against the clock. You’ll find plenty of references from the previous entries, like Resident Evil 2. If this is your first time playing a Resident Evil game, you’re bound to miss a lot of these secrets and references, but if you’re a fan of the series and have already experienced the previous entries, you’re in for a treat.

    Gameplay

    Grace

Alright, let’s start with Grace’s gameplay. As previously mentioned, stealth is your main weapon. You have very limited ammo, and it’s up to you to use it wisely. You’re better off not triggering the zombies if possible. Trust me, I got myself into trouble from making a sound while moving some boxes, cracking glass, or just getting caught at the worst possible time.

The good news is, Leon hands you Requiem when you finally meet him, but here’s the catch: there’s only one bullet. Therefore, you’d better make sure to use it when you really, really need it. There are enemies like Zombie Chef and Screamer Zombie that deserve a shot with Requiem because they are annoying to deal with if you’re out of ammo.

Other than that, the game has everything you’d expect from a Resident Evil game—locks, herbs, and examining objects to find hidden keys. You also have a limited inventory, so my recommendation is to focus on increasing it. You can do this by unlocking the safe or gathering enough Antique Coins.

Most of the time, you’ll be playing hide and seek with the zombies. It’s fun and scary at the same time. As for healing, there’s no Red Herb, only Green Herb, and a Med injector. You can craft these items by collecting scraps or metals.

    Leon

Let me just say that once you start playing as Leon, you’re in for a ride. The guy still quips and kicks zombie butt like you’d expect him to. His inventory is massive, so you don’t have to worry about storage management that much. He can even pick up enemy weapons like the chainsaw or axe, and kill the zombies with them. You don’t have to worry about opening sturdy locks with Leon, as he’ll brute force his way into opening them.

In addition, as you progress further in the story, you’ll be able to acquire points for all the zombies you kill. These points can be exchanged for new guns, armor, ammo, and med injection. You can also put charms on your favorite weapon to enhance its abilities. Also, did I mention how fun it is to parry enemy attacks? Using Leon’s axe is one of my favorite new additions in this game. Let Grace deal with using the knives.

There’s also a section where you have to ride a bike, and I loved every second of it. It was fast-paced and exhilarating, and it’s such a Leon thing to do. For old-time players, you’ll find plenty of cool secrets and easter eggs as you explore Raccoon City, so be sure to take your time and enjoy the surroundings the game offers you.

    Performance

One word, fantastic. Throughout my playthrough, I didn’t encounter any bugs, lags, or crashes. The game ran smoothly, and thanks to that, the immersion didn’t break. The RE Engine’s optimization is great, and it shows in Capcom’s latest entry.

    Immersion

You are immersed the moment you start the game. There was never a dull moment for me. I even enjoyed all the goofy stuff I found while playing the game, and that’s what makes Resident Evil such a beloved franchise. Capcom nailed everything: the soundtrack, the environment, the atmosphere, literally everything I could think of has been delivered beyond my expectations.

    Concluding Remarks

In conclusion to my Resident Evil Requiem review, this game is totally worth it. It gathers all the great features of the previous entries and merges them into this masterpiece. There was never a dull moment when I played Resident Evil Requiem, and it makes me appreciate the game even more.
