Games with excessive violence, gore, cursing, and blood are common these days and are usually not a victim of censorship. However, when it comes to sexualizing characters with revealing cleavage and skintight body suits, compromises have to be made. However, that isn’t the case for Stellar Blade.
Yes, despite Stellar Blade’s fast-paced and flashy combat which leads to an unignorable amount of jiggle physics, Stellar Blade is getting an uncensored release in every country. And yes, that includes countries like Saudi Arabia which are strict for controlling the type of media presented and distributed in the Kingdom.
What Is Stellar Blade?
Stellar Blade is an ARPG where super soldiers have to fight off an Alien Invasion. The gameplay is reminiscent of NieR: Automata with its 3rd person camera where you explore apocalyptic environments whilst fighting off hordes of alien monsters.
Of course, the excessive amount of gore is only possible due to weapons such as blades, machine guns, and laser blasters being used to eliminate enemies in battles that are characterized by their fast pace, featuring sword slashes, large explosions, and realistic gunfire.
My Thoughts
I’ve lived in Saudi Arabia for most of my life and getting direct access to any explicit material is a big no-no. However, people play video games for the gameplay, story, plot, and music so it’s disappointing to see great titles getting botched due to censorship or straight-up being unavailable due to some non-conservative character design.
For example, imagine if you could never play GTA V due to the poster girl on the CD and loading screens. You’d be missing out on one of the greatest gaming has to offer. So, I’m glad that Stellar Blade is getting an unbarred release and I hope Shift Up and Sony take advantage of this freedom to deliver a faithful raw experience.
